Current Events

Here's Our Post Hurricane Plan for this Weekend and Next Week

We pray this finds you and your loved ones in a posture of gratitude to the Lord for his hand of protection and provision in and through Hurricane Irma.  Since Monday afternoon our leadership team and several from our church family have been surveying the post hurricane needs within the family and neighborhoods. We have been able to serve several homes by removing hurricane shutters, clearing brush out of the way, cutting down broken trees limbs, assessing roofs and fences.  We have been able to address most of the immediate needs that have been brought to our attention. We are asking each of you to do what you are able to for yourselves and your neighbors, as there is great need and everyone doing what they can helps us join in bearing each others burdens together.  If you remain without electricity please text Lisette Ratcliffe at (727) 488-0326.  We have several families that have graciously offered their homes as a place to be refreshed by a meal, hot shower, and or a little AC break, as well as charge your cell phones. We are grateful to God that our church family has not experienced significant damage or loss and most have had their electricity restored.  Lord willing by this Saturday morning all of Pinellas will have had their electric and Internet restored.

This is such a fantastic, but brief window of time to reach out to your neighborhood and others in need with the love and kindness of Jesus. If you have debris or tree limbs down or any other post hurricane challenge that you need assistance with please communicate your need to me, Lisette, so I can assimilate the needs to our leadership team for assessment.  You can also use this form to communicate your need.  Our leadership team is praying and responding to the needs at hand based on priority.

Our Status in the Storm

Mark 4:35-41 (ESV)
On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Matthew 8:23-27 (ESV)
And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep25 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”

How could Jesus have slept in such a dangerous storm?

Did the Disciples know this storm was coming? Did Jesus?

How does Jesus’ posture speak to who He is?

How does Jesus’ posture inform how we should react to storms in our lives?

What is the cause of the disciples fear?

What have been some intense storms in your life? How have you been tempted to react in fear?

What is the difference between reacting in faith vs. fear?

How does faith respond in the midst of the storm?

What does Jesus’ rebuke of the winds and waves reveal?

How can we have confidence that Jesus is with us and will not leave us in the midst of our most troubling storms?

Although the disciples had witnessed many miracles, they panicked in this storm. As experienced sailors, they knew its danger; what they did not know was that Jesus could control the forces of nature. Often our souls are troubled because we feel there is a problem where God can't or won't work. When we truly understand who God is, however, we will realize that He controls both the storms of nature and the storms of the troubled heart. Jesus' power that calmed this storm can also help us deal with the problems we face. Jesus is willing to help if we only ask him.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (ESV)
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORDHe is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

How can you apply this to your life during this storm?

Woot! Woot! Did Someone Say "Parents Night Out"?

2017 is the Year of Our Church's 10th Anniversary!

The Focus for 2017 will be "Devoted"

We’re starting a new series or rather theme for our church for 2017. It’s called Devoted. Our verse or passage as a church is Acts 2:42-47, where the Church exploded forth through the power of the Holy Spirit and the preaching of Peter. This first group of baptized Christians filled with the Spirit devoted themselves to several things: The Apostle’s teaching, the fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayers. We’ve broken it up into those four aspects and are doing different things each month to help devote ourselves to what those early believers devoted themselves to. "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." Acts 2:42 ESV

Memory Verses for 2017

January - Hebrews 4:12-13 (ESV) 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

February - Psalm 119:9-11 (ESV) “9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. 10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! 11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

March - Matthew 7:24(ESV) “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

April - 2 Timothy 3:16-17(ESV) “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teachingm for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God be complete, equipped for every good work.”

May - Psalm 19:7-9 (ESV) The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether."

June - Psalm 19:10-11 (ESV) "10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

July - Romans 8:31-32 ESV "31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

August - Psalm 119:130 "130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.

Make Plans to Do LIFE Together by Joining a Life Group for this Semester!

Reminder, our Life Groups take a rythm of rest during the month of August and December.

A Life Group is a small group of people, who seek to live life together in Christ. Life Groups provide a place where people can connect with one another as fellow Christians, and develop a sense of community and family. Life Groups are the heartbeat of our church life, and there is one just right for you! Most Life Groups meet in people’s homes for a special time of fellowship, prayer, encouragement, and Bible study, just like in the early church.  (Acts 2:42-47) Several meet right here on campus on Wednesday nights.  There are Life Groups for every age! Look under "Groups" to see which one fits you! Want more information on these opportunities? Go to http://www.faithfellowshipstpete.org/groups/ for a list of this semester's Life Groups.
